Twisted Metal PS3 Review - Single Player

It's come a long way since its first debut on the Playstation one back in 1996. Twisted Metal always had a special place in my heart as a series and this game is no exception. The ps3 release has taken the original game and blown it out of proportion.

The game is like no other you'll ever play.

The gameplay is riveting, the graphics a little dated but very tolerable, the soundtrack amazing, and the cut scenes had a very Grindhouse-esque feel which was very well done while being a tad bit cheesy.

Gameplay:

The gameplay feels like a modern shooter, but with cars. There are explosions that attack you every which way and make you feel like you're in a battle zone filled with cars. There are different game modes that add to the experience, including racing. Racing was definitely the most suprising installment into this game (and franchise) because it was new to the series and kept gameplay fresh and new during your first playthrough. What I love most about the gameplay is how replayable it is. Every time you're gonna want to replay a level to get something you hadn't before or to experiment new weapons or vehicles. One problem I had with the gameplay though was all the wreckage... it gets in your way and there is only certain buildings your able to smash through leaving the others untouchable which is a pain because you're always attempting to smash through an unbreakable building and left stalling or stopping. Another problem I faced during my first playthrough was the enemy car's ability to freeze me, this takes some getting used to however I feel like it should've been presented at a later time during the game instead of at the start when I'm just started to get a feel for the game. My final rating for Gameplay is 9/10

Soundtrack:

I can honestly say that Twisted Metal for the ps3 has the greatest soundtrack for a modern video game I've ever heard. The company got the licenses for a ton of wicked rock songs that really adds to the gameplay experience. My final rating for Soundtrack is 9/10

Cut-Scenes:

The live-action cut scenes in the game are every bit important as the game itself. I'm not like most people who only play games for the gameplay, I find the story to help me better understand the character's situation which over-all helps my performance on the game itself. If I know what I'm playing for it makes it more rewarding. Which is why the story in Twisted Metal really was a decent one. Playing as Mr.Grimm was a pleasure overall because of his situation in the story, however I'm not going to spoil it. My final rating for Cut-scenes (and story) is 7/10.
